Shifts in travel patterns have triggered a movement of resources toward core transit routes.  Redesign of route networks has occurred with a heightened sensitivity to equity and to the needs of the essential workforce.  This discussion will focus on lessons transit agencies have learned over time as they adjusted to changes in demography, land use, economics, technology and mobility options, as well as the evolution from hub-and-spoke designs and changes in the peak travel period.  Panelists will also explore open questions about the post-pandemic recovery that could shape bus networks of the future.

Moderator: Dawn Distler, CEO, METRO Regional Transportation Authority, Akron, OH

Panelists:

  • Inez Evans, President & CEO, Indianapolis Public Transit Corporation (IndyGO)
  • Jarrett Walker, Jarrett Walker and Associates
  • Todd Hemingson, HDR (new TCRP report “Redesigning Transit Network for the New Mobility Future”)
