As transit buses have evolved, network communications have increased and become an integral part of the powertrain and the IO control system. Because more systems and nodes are added to the networks, communication traffic has increased which can be affected by any variances in the voltage levels, electrical noise, network layout, and connector issues. There has been an increase in the number of bus breakdowns associated with the network or system controllers, causing operational issues that can result in costly and lengthy breakdowns.
