General Session: Deconstructing Stigma: Changing Attitudes About Mental Health and the 2022 Bus Safety & Security Awards

Kicking off this dynamic general session is the 2022 Bus Safety & Security Awards. The APTA Bus Safety and Security Excellence Awards, recognize bus systems in North America for their excellence in safety and security. Winning systems were chosen based on the innovation, effectiveness, benefits and transferability of their program or project. 

Then we will lead into a dynamic discussion of how stigma often brings experiences and feelings of shame, blame, hopelessness, distress, misrepresentation in the media, and reluctance to seek and/or accept necessary help. Every one of us has the ability to help reduce stigma and encourage compassion and tolerance. We will hear from an expert from McLean Hospital on how we can do just that to help ourselves and each other get the support we need to get through together.
