Transit Ridership Trends and the Future of Ridership

Recorded On: 11/09/2021

The pandemic has brought about major changes in ridership levels and trends – some temporary, some potentially longer lasting. Modes like commuter rail and commuter bus have seen a large reduction in ridership with a tepid recovery. Certain urban bus routes have maintained ridership and some services have seen a “flattening” out of traditional peak/nonpeak patterns. This session will highlight best practices on ridership growth during these times and as we transition to a post-pandemic world. It will also feature thoughts on how a city/region can drive ridership growth, as well as what fare policies will look like in the future to drive ridership growth and revenue for transit agencies.
