Using Data to Implement Effective and Equitable Bus Lane Projects (Leadership APTA 2021)

Bus lanes and priority have the potential to bring big benefits to transit riders, and data to support decision-making is more readily available than ever. Transit agencies and cities should embrace and harness the power of data in preparing for, implementing, and measuring the success of bus lanes and transit priority to ensure that projects make a difference, delivering equitable customer and operational benefits. This project will explore the critical use of data and information in successful implementation of transformative bus priority projects both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, from project scoping and development through performance monitoring and measuring results “on the ground.”
